The best beaches in La Gomera
La Gomera is an island full of surprises, and its beaches are no exception.

La Gomera is an island full of surprises, and its beaches are no exception. Scattered among volcanic coves, dramatic cliffs and charming fishing villages, many of them still retain that wild and authentic spirit that makes them true hidden gems. If you're planning your first visit or simply want to know which beaches you absolutely shouldn't miss this summer, here’s our personal selection of must-see beaches in La Gomera.

Our beach picks for Summer 2025

Playa de San Sebastián

Located right in the centre of the island’s capital, this urban volcanic-sand beach is perfect for anyone wanting to combine sun and sea with full facilities nearby. With more than 600 metres of coastline, crystal-clear waters and unbeatable views of Mount Teide, it’s ideal for safe swimming. Lifeguards, bus stops, bins and a large car park make it a convenient and accessible spot.

Playa de La Cueva

Tucked away near the port of San Sebastián, this small beach offers a peaceful, more intimate atmosphere. From its dark sand you can enjoy spectacular views of Teide and the island of Tenerife. It has showers, accessible paths, and nearby traditional restaurants. Less crowded than others, it’s the perfect place for unwinding at your own pace.

Playa de Vueltas

In the southwest of the island, in Valle Gran Rey, you’ll find this sheltered beach with calm waters—ideal for families with young children. It offers easy access, safe swimming, showers, and several restaurants just steps away. Fishing boats resting on the sand add a picturesque local touch.

Playa del Inglés

Also in Valle Gran Rey, this naturist-friendly and alternative beach is an icon of La Gomera’s free-spirited tourism. Surrounded by cliffs and with uninterrupted views of the ocean, it’s the perfect place to relax at sunset. The sea is usually calm, and restaurants, bars and accommodation are close by, although you’ll need to take a short walk to reach it.

Playa de Alojera

Hidden in the north of Vallehermoso, this beach has a strikingly rugged setting. Its volcanic cliffs and rustic surroundings make it one of the island’s most visually stunning spots. While there are showers and a few bars, it’s advisable to take extra care when swimming due to strong waves.

La Caleta

Located in Hermigua, this tranquil black-sand beach is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. With picnic areas, toilets and beach bars, it’s a great choice for a full day by the sea. If you're after a well-maintained and peaceful spot, this is it.

Playa de Santiago

One of the island’s largest beaches, it is found in Alajeró and is perfect for diving enthusiasts. With clear waters and rich marine biodiversity, it’s ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. Its vibrant seafront promenade, local bars and laid-back atmosphere make it a destination worth staying for a few days.

Playa de Santa Catalina

This untamed beach in Hermigua is perfect for nature lovers seeking a touch of adventure. With moderate waves, swimming is best left to confident swimmers. In return, you’ll be rewarded with unforgettable sunsets and well-equipped areas with sun loungers, parasols and parking.

Playa de Vallehermoso

This beach stands out for its maritime park, which includes a swimming pool, summer activities and a seafront restaurant. Just 3 km from the town centre, it offers a balance between sea-side calm and the comfort of modern facilities.

Playa El Guincho

In a rocky and secluded setting, this 200-metre nudist beach draws those seeking total disconnection. Access is slightly more challenging—either on foot or by boat from the port of San Sebastián—but the turquoise waters and sense of freedom are well worth the effort.
